Pre-Season Inspection Checklist for Volvo CE Equipment
A pre-season inspection performed before a machine goes back into full production after winter storage, seasonal layup or a period of reduced activity is one of the highest-value maintenance tasks in a fleet operator’s calendar. Machines that have sat unused for 4–12 weeks develop specific failure modes that are largely invisible at startup but become field failures within the first 50–100 operating hours. Why Pre-Season Inspections Matter More Than Regular Service
Standard service intervals are designed for machines in continuous operation. A machine that has been idle for 2–3 months has different failure risks: rubber seals dry out and crack, hydraulic cylinder rods develop rust spots from condensation, battery charge depletes, hydraulic oil water content increases from thermal cycling, and greased joints lose their film thickness as grease migrates. A pre-season inspection catches these issues before the machine is in the field under load.
